Gorakhpur is a city situated on the banks of the West Rapti and Rohin river basins. Rapti River in the north-eastern part of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is 273 km east of the state capital Lucknow, near the Nepal border. The city is home to the Gorakhnath Math, a Gorakshanath temple. The name "Gorakhpur" comes from the Sanskrit Gorakshpuram, meaning the abode of Gorakshanath, a famous ascetic who was a prominent saint of the Natha sect. Gorakhpur Airport is located at a distance of 7 kilometers from Gorakhpur Railway Station on the Gorakhpur-Kushinagar Highway (NH-28).
